In a world where you can be anything !!!

What a wonderful statement " In a world where you can be anything you want

I came across this statement while watching a kids show. Yes, that's what we tell our kids. But even when we tell them that, don't we wish inside that they choose something which will earn them a lot of money and respect, or something which we parents can brag 'proudly' in front of society? Do we imagine our kids happily doing what they like or  do we picture them doing what we like ?

Not only we wish for them to be a successful professional, we even train them early in their childhood, mould them and make them interested in so called prestigious jobs. A safe and secured job with financial independence. That's what our parents wanted for us, and that's what we need for our kids too.

But do we ever think seriously about their talents and interests? Not only as a hobby, which they do in their leisure time or not simply to win the competitions and stock the shelves with trophies(again a prestigious thing for parents). But as something which is a unique gift in them. Something which we need to nourish and enrich.

Expose them to the world which they are interested in. Guide them as needed. Explore the possibilities for a career in the field they like. Be their strongest support and believe in their abilities and talents, and simply be there for them.

But I think one another important issue which is blocking us from all these are that we are still not aware of the millions of job possibilities (including me) in the world. Even in this 21st century, we are circling around 3 or 4 jobs which give us a fair income, so we train our kids to do the same, because we 'love' them and don't want them to struggle.

Not everyone is designed to be a Doctor, Engineer or a Lawyer. And it is okay to choose the offstream career. It doesn't make us anything lesser. If we are being judged by what we like or what we do, it is not us who should be worried for. That is the problem of that person or the society which is biased for ages and ages.

It is our life, and the world is open with all the possibilities. It is us who are not open. At least we should make our kids open to a world where they can be anything they want. Without any judgements and fears.

We need good Writers, Artists, Bakers, Photographers, Craftsman, Chefs in the same way we need Astronauts, Teachers, Lawyers and definitely Doctors and Engineers too.(which we have in abundance...)

Every job is a curse if we do it with hate ; and every job is a blessing if we do it with love. Let our children actually get the opportunity to find the job which they love, to become what they really want, and not getting manipulated by our insecurities and biased thoughts.  Hope there will be a generation without Monday blues...

" Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts."
